After ages without an update ! The king (me ) is back with a self -portrait .This is one of the most photogenic toilet in Japan .
Covered of old pics that varies from old jazz musicians , hardcore bands , pin-ups and local talents .For who have lived in Kanazawa is a easy task to recognize the place ! So how about give it a shot ?
Let me know where it is !!!!!
Btw I got some hate mail about the last photo and my comments about the bloodsuckers Japanese's on their 30's who still live with their parents !!!!
So here is my thoughts about the e-mails i got ( more than 20 ) .
1- This blog is in english , bad english but still . So don't write to me in Kanji ,even better don't write to me at all with if your are a GAIJIN hater . Go out and get a life and move out your parents house .
2 - I love this place . Japan is my second home.
3- YES i have a visa , btw i have a PERMANENT VISA . I could have a japanese passport but i was born in Brazil and i don't want to have to get a visa when i go back to my home country .
4- Hoshida is my family name so you should use your brain and realize i have japanese blood running in my veins .
5- I have a beautiful daughter with a japanese woman , she doesn't live with me but i care for her future and the future of this country way more than you do . Again stop attack me and move out of your parents house , pay your bills , food etc and my comments won't offend you anymore ! Easy .
6- I have no problems with brands , cars and expensive stuff ! Come on , i am a Mac and Nikon user , these brands doesn't come cheap .
My problem is when a person who loves expensive stuff and want it soo bad , need to suck money from his family to get it . Buy your own stuff , it will make you feel better ! Believe me .
7- This is for the guy (girl) who wrote about how well travelled he /she is ,how he/she got a very nice university diploma , How the family doesn't mind about he/she living with them without have to work full time , how exciting he/she life is and how he/she has no shame about live with the family and suck dry all their finances .
If your life is soooo good WHY you wasted minutes of your super exciting life writing to me ??????
WHY you got so offended ?
I got a clue !!!! Bloodsucker baby-boomer on your 30's !
Is easy to be 7 feet tall behind a computer screen on your little room filled of brands clothes , new car , 70 inch tv ,PS 3 and your dream magazines .
I want see if you are brave enough to rent your place ,pay for gas , electricity , car , clothes , traveling without any help from your parents .
I would write more but i have things to do ,coz i live by myself and i have a pile of dirty clothes to wash . It's not easy but independence and freedom have a price and worth it .

Yuko is a dear friend of mine and an example for this lazy, spoiled and bloody sucker generation of Japanese's . The baby boomers who are on their 30's ,have love for brands , new cars , Anime dolls , video games , get the hair done once a week , expensive restaurants, Full size dolls , never reads a real book ,etc .
But still living with their parents without helping paying the rent or food and all they do is complaining about how good it was before the bubble burst.
I love japanese peoples but this generation will f... up the country .
Anyway let's get back to the caption for this pic :)
Yuko owns a Cafe and restaurant that she had to loan the money to open but she paid it off a while a go .
The place opens for lunch and dinner and closes around 1 am .
During the winter she just do the cafe thing but when spring comes she wakes up and go out fishing in a open sea with her dad almost everyday at 4:30 am !!!!!!!
She does it just to hang around her old men and of course get some real fresh fish for her cafe ! Btw her dad charge half the price for the fish ! Tough !
It's rare to find a young Japanese who is strong and focused like she is these days .

Again the sensor on the Nikon D700 shows how good it is even at iso 6400 .
Of course there is a bit of noise but it looks like grain from the old film times . What i like very much .

I love geikos (geisha) this is no secret .
Akane is first a class geiko and used to be a girlfriend of the legendary japanese photographer Nobuyoshi Araki .
She appears on a bunch of Araki's books .

I took this picture last year at Koya-san Wakayama when i was on assignment for Silverkris inflight magazine .
The best thing about assignments , is the photos you make on the side .Because after i get what the mag wants ( hopefully i will) ,i can take my time and do my personal work.
And the mag sometimes sends you to a places you never heard about . What was this case . I drove for 6 hours , got lost several times but boy it felt good when i got there .

I read this book for the first time in a plane on my way to Italy last june . But i felt i didn't paid the attention the book deserved .
So i read it again this week .
I know you can find 1.000 reviews on this book out here on the internet but i want to give my 2 cents as well.
So here is 6 reasons i really like this book .
1- Joe McNally is a photographer who loves what he does even when things goes really south.
2- He is honest about his "glamorous photographer life " .
3- He knows a lot but he screw up a lot as well but it never stop him shooting .
4- Joe shows and tells about the times when a photographer have to forget "art" and just get the job done.
5- He is a Nikon and Mac user ( i know it should not count but it does for me )
6- He has a great sense of humor
6 - Joe is talented and natural born photographer .

And on top of it . The book is full of amazing photos !
Go and get it .

Another example of how good the Nikon D700 work in low light situations !
The only light source is the tinny lamp above the table . It helps to use a Nikkor 85mm 1.8 wide open !
The other funny thing is ! Peoples don't mind if you point your camera at them and take photos in dark places if they don't see the flash going off .
Because they know the photo will be just a black frame . If they just knew what the Nikon sensor is capable of capture !

The good thing about been out of a job is the free time to do things one never find the time to do.
I'm going down on my list of films i want to see and books i want to read or read again.
Here's an example of a must to see . The documentary "shooting the messenger" from Aljazeera.
I have a huge respect and admiration for this journalists , photographers and their crew who risk their lives everyday to bring to us the truth about wars and other conflicts around the world .
Watch all the episodes and you will see these mens with a new eye .
God bless and protect them .

If you have a fast lens , use the fastest aperture and it will give the photo a nice bokeh and fast shutter speed to boot so it will be easier to get a sharp photo .
Remember that and will be able to work the depth of field and get your subject to "pop" out of the picture .

Omicho Market in Kanazawa is the kind of place where one's can spend hours taking pictures and don't run out of subjects and
candid moments.
Photograph there will be easier if you have a a D700 :) because it have almost no noise in the high isos !
Btw , know how to work on manual mode is essential to get a good results . If you are the kind guy with who thinks the "P" symbol on the dial of your camera means PRO .Chances are you won't get a good photo .
